Common CNA Work Settings
Nursing Homes/Long-Term Care Facilities
Most CNAs work here, assisting elderly or disabled residents with daily needs. Assist with bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting. Monitor and report changes in patient condition to nurses. CNAs often build long-term relationships with residents and document daily care routines.
Hospitals
CNAs support nurses by providing basic patient care and monitoring vital signs. Collect specimens for testing (e.g., urine, stool samples). CNAs may transport patients, set up medical equipment, or assist in emergency situations.
Assisted Living Facilities
CNAs help residents with personal care while promoting independence. Maintain clean and sanitary patient rooms.
Home Health Care
CNAs provide care in patients' homes, assisting with hygiene, mobility, and medication reminders. Provide companionship and emotional reassurance. CNAs may also prepare light meals, run errands, and assist with household tasks.
Rehabilitation Centers
CNAs help patients recovering from surgery, injury, or illness regain function.
Hospice Care
CNAs provide comfort and support to terminally ill patients. Monitor and report changes in patient condition to nurses. Measure and record blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiratory rate.
